Know your rights with Immigration
Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network has produced know-your-rights flyers that explain your rights in encounters with ICE or CBP.
The know-your-rights flyers are available in Amharic, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Dari, Fiji-Hindi, French, Haitian Creole, I-Taukei Fijian, Japanese, Korean, Lao, Lingala, Pashto, Portuguese, Samoan, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Tigrinya, Tongan, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
If you have questions about your immigration status, try to talk to an immigration lawyer.
The know-your-rights flyers explain with more details these important rights:
- You have the right not to open the door
- You have the right to remain silent and not to sign any document without an attorney present
- You have the right not to consent to a warrantless search of your body, car, or home
- You have the right to take photos and videos, and write down details
The know-your-rights flyers also have illustrated examples of a valid judicial search warrant signed by a judge or magistrate, which a federal agent must show you to be able to search your body, car, or home.
